New Delhi: As New Year gift to people, the prices of Jet fuel, or Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) was reduced by 1.5 % and rates of commercial LPG were also slashed by ₹14.5 per 19-kg cylinder in the monthly revision.

The ATF price in the national capital has been reduced Rs 1,804 per 19-kg cylinder after a reduction of Rs 14.5. Similarly, ATF prices in Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata were reduced by Rs. Rs. 1,349.09, Rs. 1,491.84, and Rs. 1,560.77 to Rs 84,511.93, Rs. 93,059.79, and Rs. 93,670.72 per kilolitre, respectively. It was first reduction in ATF prices, after increase for the five consecutive months. The cumulative increase over these five revisions led to Rs. 172.5 per cylinder.
Meanwhile, the rate of a 19-kg commercial LPG are Rs 1,756 in Mumbai, Rs 1,911 in Kolkata, and Rs 1,966 in Chennai. The changes in the prices across states are majorly due to different local taxes including VAT. However, the rate of cooking gas used in domestic households, continue to remain Rs. 803 per 14.2-kg cylinder.
Commercial LPG is majorly used in the hospitality and food & beverage areas. This price reduction may as alleviate the expenses of hotels and restaurants. Commercial LPG prices had been amplified for five consecutive months starting from August. Prices of domestic cooking gas, however, were left unchanged.

Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) revise prices of ATF and cooking gas on the first of every month considering the average price of benchmark international fuel and foreign exchange rates.
However, there is no relief in petrol and diesel prices. The rates has been slashed by Rs. 2 per litre in mid-March ahead of the general elections. Petrol costs Rs. 94.72 a litre in Delhi, while diesel is priced at Rs. 87.62.
