There are no changes in Petrol and Diesel prices in New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai today, 22 August. Minor revisions can be seen in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Bihar.
The major cities first, in Delhi, petrol is at Rs 96.72 per litre, while diesel is priced at Rs 89.62 per litre. In Mumbai, petrol stood at Rs 106.31 per litre, while diesel for Rs 94.27 per litre.
Kolkata, has petrol at Rs 106.31 per litre and diesel at Rs 92.76 per litre inclusive of taxes. In Chennai, petrol prices are at Rs 102.63 per litre, while diesel can be obtained at Rs 94.24 per litre.
In Amritsar, petrol was up by 2 paise, at 98.76 per litre and diesel went up by 2 paise, now at 89.06 per litre.
In Noida petrol went up by 11 paise, making it costlier at Rs 96.76 and diesel also turned costlier by 11 paise to Rs 89.93.
In Gurugram (Gurgaon), petrol prices went up by 52 paise, to Rs 96.66 per litre. Diesel also went up, by 51 paise and is being sold at Rs 89.54.
In India, petrol and diesel prices are revised daily at 6 am.
The last all India revision of prices was done in May 22, when Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman had reduced the excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 8 and Rs 6 per litre.
The Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, and Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri said that ‘the government has been taking steps to reduce fuel prices, but that these steps have been constrained by the rise in international crude oil prices.’
He added that ‘fuel prices depend on various factors, such as international prices, transportation costs, refining expenses, and taxes imposed by the government. He stressed that the fuel prices in the country are not arbitrary but are dictated by how the government handles these factors’, the Business Today reported. The minister said that there would not be any move to reduce the prices with the Lok Sabha elections in mind.
On global space, oil was seen to edge a slight low as markets waited for Iraqi oil exports to resume, this is expected to smooth the supply due to the cut by OPEC+. Meanwhile, the situation in China’s economy has continued to undercut the global demand outlook, Reuters reported, said Business Today.
The Brent crude and US West Texas Intermediate had slipped earlier.
