Popularly known as the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) or the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri-Nhava Sheva Atal Setu has made headlines after Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole accused the BJP of corruption in the bridge’s construction while inspecting cracks on the road.
Patole, who visited the site to inspect the cracks, alleged that the bridge’s construction quality was poor and accused the BJP and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) of corruption. “The bridge is named after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and it is unfortunate that the government is involved in corruption. The BJP coerces corrupt political leaders to join them, after putting the fear of Enforcement Directorate and Central Bureau of Investigation in them,” accused Patole, as quoted by The Hindu.

Responding to the allegations, the Maharashtra government stated that the minor cracks were found on the road connecting Atal Setu which was not part of the main bridge.
The MMRDA released a statement stating that the minor cracks were found on the road surface near the edges at three locations on the ramp towards Mumbai and that they were appearing because of any structural defect. The organisation added that repair work had already begun by Friday evening.
State Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis refuted the allegations and attacked Congress. “There is no crack on Atal Setu. Nor is there any danger to Atal Setu. This picture is of the approach road. But one thing is clear that the Congress party has made a long term plan to create a rift with the help of lies. Talks of constitutional amendments during elections, unlocking of EVMs through phone after elections and now such lies. Only the people of the country will defeat this ‘Darar’ plan and the corrupt behaviour of Congress,” he posted on X.
