“Not Renounced Anything”: Spiritual Speaker Jaya Kishori Defends Carrying Dior Bag

Spiritual preacher and singer Jaya Kishori responded to the severe backlash over her Rs 2 lakh Christian Dior bag, which uses calfskin leather at an airport. The 29-year-old came under fire after people pointed out the hypocrisy of a spiritual preacher who is vocal about leading a non-materialistic lifestyle.

A video of Kishori at an airport carrying Dior’s ‘Book Tote,’ which is made from cotton and leather with her name embossed on it, went viral as several people questioned how a follower of the Hindu religion could use calfskin.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Kishori claimed that her bag was customised to be free of leather and reinstated that she has never used leather in her life. “The bag is a customised bag. There is no leather in it, and customised means that you can get it made as per your wish. That is why my name is also written on it. I have never used leather, nor will I ever use it,” she told ANI.

The 29-year-old further said that she was a “normal girl” and that she has never claimed to “renounce anything.”

“I have not renounced anything, so how can I tell you to do so? I am clear from day one that I am not a saint, sadhu, or sadhvi. I am a normal girl, I live in a normal house, I live with my family. I tell the same thing to the youth that you should work hard, earn money, give yourself a good life, give your family a good life, and fulfil your dreams,” she explained.

She also highlighted that she has had the same bag for years and has even carried it to airports. Calling the criticism “negative publicity,” she said that her justification over the ongoing issue was solely for her followers.

“I won’t break your trust. I started my journey 22 years ago. I’m not so stupid that I would let go of the hard work that I have done in the last few years,” she added.
