Odisha: Doctor Brutally Assaulted Over Pregnant Woman’s Death After Suspected Snakebite

Malkangiri, Odisha: Family members of a pregnant woman who died during treatment for a suspected snakebite brutally assaulted a doctor at the Malkangiri district headquarters hospital (DHH) on Wednesday, June 17.

The victim, identified as 30-year-old Dr Sidhant Adarsh, was assaulted by the relatives of the deceased woman accusing him of negligence during the treatment.

However, the assault on the medical professional has sparked an outcry from the Odisha Medical Services Association (OMSA) which threatened to launch a statewide agitation if no action was taken against the attackers in the next 48 hours.

The deceased woman, 29-year-old Bandana Mondal, was admitted to the DHH late on Tuesday night after reportedly suffering snakebite. The woman died on Wednesday while she was undergoing treatment under Dr Sidhant.

Notably, enraged by the death of the seven-month-pregnant woman, her family members and villagers unleashed an attack against the doctor right on the hospital premises. Doctors have demanded the Odisha government and concerned authorities to take immediate action against the attackers and ensure protection for doctors.
