OpVid: Timeline Launches A First In Media World
Kozhikode, Kerala: December 19, 2025 – In a pioneering move for world digital media, Timeline has unveiled “OpVid”, a groundbreaking series of opinion videos curated from external contributors and showcased across its social media platforms. This innovative format, styled as a video equivalent to the traditional OpEd, marks the first such experiment in the ever evolving mass media space, blending sharp commentary with visual storytelling to engage audiences on pressing socio-political issues.
The series kicked off on Timeline’s Malayalam platform The South Draft (TSD). TSD, known for its focused editorial initiatives, suggested the concept, recognising the growing demand for authentic, contributor-led voices in an era dominated by algorithm-driven content.
The inaugural OpVid features social commentator Favas Chemmala, who delivers a candid exploration of the pornography industry’s underbelly. Titled “Nagnathayude Vyaapaaram or the Nude industry”, the video dissects the business mechanics of pornography and the harsh realities faced by porn stars, including exploitation, health risks, and societal stigma.
In this first ever OpVid, Favas Chemmala brings his incisive analysis to the fore, urging viewers to confront the economic and ethical dimensions of an industry often shrouded in taboo. “Pornography is not merely entertainment; it is a multi-billion-rupee enterprise built on vulnerability,” Chela states in the video, highlighting ratios of performer burnout and the lack of regulatory oversight. Clocking in at under six minutes and short forms, the piece is designed for quick consumption on platforms like Instagram and YouTube, ensuring maximum reach among younger demographics.
Timeline (TimelineDaily.com), founded in 2023 as a credible news portal committed to accurate and timely reporting, positions OpVid as a fresh avenue for opinion-driven content. Unlike standard vlogs, OpVids are rigorously vetted for factual accuracy while preserving the contributor’s viewpoint.
The launch comes at a time when Indian media grapples with evolving digital regulations, including SEBI guidelines on finfluencer content and broader calls for ethical journalism. By sourcing vlogs from independents like Chemmala, Timeline democratises opinion spaces, potentially setting a template for convergence journalism. This “first in the media world” bridges print-era OpEds with video’s viral potential.
Future OpVids promise diverse topics, from politics to culture, with plans to expand to Timeline’s English platforms as well.
