More than 31,000 women and girls have gone missing in Madhya Pradesh in the last three years, according to officials.
Over 28,857 women and 2,944 girls were reported missing between 2021 and 2024, as per official data revealed in the state assembly in response to a question by Congress MLA and former Home Minister Bala Bachchan.
The data shows an average of 28 women and three girls going missing every day in Madhya Pradesh. Despite these alarming figures, only 724 missing cases have been officially registered.
In Ujjain, 676 women have disappeared over the past 34 months without any cases being registered.
Sagar district has recorded the highest number of missing girls at 245 cases, while Indore tops the list with 2,384 missing women. In Indore alone, 479 women have been missing for over a month, yet only 15 cases have been officially registered.
