As several opposition leaders concerns regarding the alleged hacking of their iPhone devices caused a political storm, TMC MP Mahua Moitra, one of the affected party in the situation, said that BJP has a history of “Peeping Tom” behaviour. Attacking the ruling government, she added that it is sad for the country that the people who are running the government have now being reduced to peeping toms.

Talking to PTI, TMC MP said that this is “endemic” to the BJP government. “They have a history of what I call “Peeping Tom” behaviour,” even though they came to national capital they cannot get rid of it.

“In 2021, there was Pegasus spyware they brought from Israel and it went to court and nothing came out of it. This is the second time. Obviously, 2024 (elections) is coming up and they want to distract from the main issues,” said Ms Moitra.

Attacking further, she said that incident is similar to be in a college dormitory where two guys always peep through the key hole to see what is going on.

“It”s shameful,” Ms Moitra remarked.

Including Ms Moitra, opposition leaders such  Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, Congres spokesperson Pawan Khera, Aam Aadmi Party”s Raghav Chadha, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, and  Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday stated that they had received an alert from Apple warning them of “state-sponsored attackers” attempting to hack into their iPhones, and shared the screenshots of said messages on their X handles.

Apart from them, AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi, Congress MP K.C. Venugopal, Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate, Congress MP Revanth Reddy, Chhattisgarh deputy CM and Congress leader T.S. Singhdeo, Telangana minister and BRS leader K.T. Rama Rao, and multiple people work in Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s office also confirmed about receiving the message.

Journalists Siddharth Vardarajan, Ravi Nair, Sriram Karri, Anand Mangnale and Observer Researcher Foundation (ORF) president Samir Saran also received similar alerts on their devices.
