‘State-Sponsered’ Hacking Attempt: BJP Rejects Opposition Claims

Amid the ongoing controversy to a state-sponsored spy attack as several opposition leaders received threat notifications on their iPhones, the BJP completely rejected all the claims and described the allegations against the central government as “baseless and false”.

Former Union minister and BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad reportedly said in a media briefing that the opposition leaders should take up the matter with Apple and file FIRs. “It is for Apple to clarify. They should file an FIR if they have any problem. Who is stopping them?” PTI quoted the BJP leader as saying. Ravi Shankar Prasad also added that it is not the regular procedure of telecom companies, and they usually report such issues to CERT-In, an agency to enhance cyber security in the country. The BJP leader also recalled the Pegasus controversy and said that Rahul Gandhi, who earlier made claims about Pegasus, had refused to deposit his iPhone before a Supreme Court-appointed committee to examine the matter.

BJP leader Amit Malviya also criticised the opposition leaders on the alleged hacking attempt claims and said that this allegation will end up in ‘damp squib’. “Usual suspects raising a storm over ‘state sponsored’ attack and pretending to be martyrs is all good… But this hullabaloo, in all probability, like in the past, will end up as damp squib!” said the BJP leader on X. In another post, Amit Malviya slammed Rahul Gandhi and said, “Apple issued a statement within minutes of Rahul Gandhi making a complete joke of himself.”

Earlier today, several opposition leaders claimed that they received security alerts from Apple. This includes Congress leaders Pawan Khera and Shashi Tharoor, Raghav Chadha of the AAP, Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra, and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi. Apart from politicians, journalists Siddharth Vardarajan and Sriram Karri also received similar alerts.
