Ashwini Vaishnaw On Apple Alert controversy: "Incomplete And Imperfect" Clarification From Apple

Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister for Communications, Electronics & Information Technology has responded to the Apple controversy over security alerts. The issue has sparked blame games and accusations from the political parties in India. Sealing of the notification as a “state-sponsored spy attack” was charged with serious accusations from the ruling party.

Earlier today, several opposition leaders claimed that they received security alerts from Apple. This includes Congress leaders Pawan Khera and Shashi Tharoor, Raghav Chadha of the AAP, Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra, and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi. Apart from politicians, journalists Siddharth Vardarajan and Sriram Karri also received similar alerts.

Relating to the issue, Apple has issued clarification adhering to the issue and said that the “state-sponsored attack” may be targeting their iPhone and could be a false alarm.  According to Apple, state-sponsored attackers are well-funded and sophisticated, and their attacks evolve over time. Apple also says on its support page that detecting such attacks relies on threat intelligence signals that are often imperfect and incomplete.

The Union Minister for Communications said that the government is concerned about statements provided by several MPs which indicated the notification to be “state-sponsored”. He also accused Apple for providing “vague and non-specific” information and called it “incomplete and imperfect”.

He said the government is concerned about the issue and will go to the bottom of the problem. He also asked Apple to “join the investigation with real, accurate information on the alleged state sponsored attacks”.

In the statement released on his social media platform X (formerly twitter), Mr. Vaishnaw has also said that the “Government of Bharat” fulfil its role of protecting the “privacy and security” of the citizens.

Mr. Vaishnaw also remarked that, “there are some compulsive critics in the country. These people can’t see the development of the country because when their family was in power, they only thought about themselves”, as quoted by Times Now.
