After the Pune juvenile court canceled the bail granted to the accused driver Vedant Agarwal, and remanded him in police custody last night, the 17-year-old has today named his family driver responsible for the accident. He claimed that his driver was riding the car when it hit the bike, killing two youngsters on the spot, India Today reports
The police are now questioning the minor”s driver, who has reportedly admitted that he was driving the Porsche when it collided with the two-wheeler. Two other friends of the Vedant Agarwal, who were also in the car while the accident happened have also maintained that the Agarwal family”s driver was driving the Porsche at the time of the crash.
Notably, the eyewitnesses on the field who took the juvenile driver from the car and beat him for careless driving had stated that the minor was driving the high-end car.
With the statement of the family driver, who is now under police custody and is being grilled, many raise suspicion about the latest development in the case.
There are allegations that it could be a manœuvre of the defense who is trying to save the minor and evade legal actions against him. The minor is the son of the prominent businessman Vishal Agarwal.
However, as all in the car including the minor”s two other friends maintain that the family driver was driving the car, testimonies of the eyewitnesses who saw the accident and punched the accused minor driver would be crucial.
Vedant Agarwal, who does not possess a driving license had reportedly been under alcohol influence. He was arrested soon after the car hit the bike from behind. Notably, within hours, a Court had granted bail to the minor child, on silly conditions that included writing essays and doing community service.
Notably, following the bail order, there was heightened public outrage over the Court”s decision. Many politicians including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had slammed the Court”s bail conditions.
However, as the public outcry pressured the Court to cancel the bail granted to the minor, the juvenile Court last night canceled the bail and sent him in police custody to the observation home.
