Sharing the details of the case, Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI-A), Usha Rangnani revealed that a passenger named Gupreet Singh arrived at the IGI airport from Almaty, Kazakhstan, on March 8 and was deported back to India. Upon the scrutiny over his deportation and travel documents, it was found that Gurpreet Singh had traveled from India to Bhutan, then to Thailand, and later to Kazakhstan using an Indian passport.
However, his passport was later confiscated by the Kazakhstan authorities as two pages of the documents were found torn and was subsequently deported to India. The authorities suspected that the missing pages might contain either fake visas or immigration stamps. Upon suspicion, a case was registered and Singh was arrested.

During the interrogation, it was unveiled that an agent named Sultan Singh arranged Gurpreet Singh’s travel to the US using a fake Brazilian visa. Sultan had promised to send him to the US by traveling through different countries for Rs 50 lakhs. Gurpreet made five unsuccessful attempts to reach the US, four attempts in 2023 and one in 2024, with the assistance of Sultan.
As a fifth attempt in March, the accused and other agents tried to send Gurpreet Singh to the US via Kazakhstan, which resulted in his deportation to India by the authorities. The missing pages were removed by Sultan Singh. Several raids were conducted at potential hideouts based on Sultan’s information but Fatehjit managed to escape each time.
His anticipatory bail applications were also dismissed by both the Session Court and the Delhi High Court. According to the DCP, further investigation is underway to unearth more agents involved in this practice.
