After Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee mimicked the Vice President and the Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar outside the Parliament on Tuesday, latter called it as “ridiculous, shameful, unacceptable”.

While speaking on the chair, Jagdeep Dhankhar reacted to Kalyan Banerjee’s mimicry about him saying: “shameful, ridiculous, unacceptable that an MP is mocking, and a second MP is video graphing that incident.” The Congress MP Rahul Gandhi filmed the incident while the rest of the opposition MPs who are protesting giggled at the happenings.

Trinamool MP had imitated the recent parliament proceedings, which have been disrupted by numerous adjournments following the repeated protests from the opposition parties demanding an official statement from the government on the parliament security breach.

However, many prominent figures from the BJP have come out against the Trinamool MP for his mimicking, and called for his suspension. A total of 141 MPs from both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha have been suspended so far, constituting two-third of the opposition MPs.

Calling for the suspension of Kalyan Banerjee, Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said that because of “disregard of house and authority of the chair, the member (MP) should be suspended.”

The BJP took to its official X page posting the video of Trinamool MP’s mimicry and telling people that “this is the reason” why the opposition leaders were suspended.

Reacting to the incident, Union Minister of Earth Sciences Kiren Rijiju on his X handle accused Banerjee of mocking the Vice President and Rahul Gandhi for enjoying it. “MP is mocking Hon’ble Vice President of our Country, while Rahul Gandhi is cheering and filming the contemptible act,” he wrote on X.

Commenting on the recklessness of the recent developments, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh wrote on X: “The new Parliament reflects Namocracy in all its tyranny.”
