Shiv Sena (Shinde) MLA Sanjay Gaikwad made a controversial remark on Monday, announcing that he would offer Rs 11 lakh to anyone who chops off Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s tongue for his comments on scrapping the reservation system.

While announcing the bizarre reward, Gaikwad referred to Gandhi’s recent US visit and said that the Congress leader wanted to “finish off” the system of reservation in the country.

“This has exposed the true face of the Congress… It shows the mindset that is inherently opposed to reservations. I will reward anyone who cuts off Rahul Gandhi’s tongue with Rs 11 lakh,” said Gaikwad. He further added that Congress had defeated Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar in the elections.

He further alleged that the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha “used to show the Constitution book and spread fake narrative that the BJP would change it.”

Distancing the party from Gaikwad’s controversial remarks, Maharashtra BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule stated. “I will not support or endorse Gaikwad’s comments. However, we cannot forget that the first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, had opposed reservations, saying it would affect the progress.”

State legislative assembly LoP and Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar slammed Gaikwad’s comments as “nonsense” and stated that strict actions should be taken against him for such remarks. “We don’t want to respond to such nonsense. However, strict actions should be taken against him. Making such remarks is against the law. Otherwise, the public of Maharashtra will show you your place in the coming days,” Wadettiwar told PTI.

State Congress spokesperson Atul Londhe stated, “We want to see whether Maharashtra Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis invokes charges of culpable homicide against Gaikwad.”

Notably, Gaikwad is no stranger to controversies. The MLA from Vidarbha’s Buldhana assembly seat found himself amid a controversy when a video of a policeman washing his car went viral. The Shiv Sena MLA claimed that the policeman had vomited inside it and had voluntarily cleaned the vehicle.

After claiming that he had hunted a tiger in 1987 and had been wearing its tooth around his neck in February, the state Forest Department sent the alleged tiger tooth for forensic identification. Gaikwad was charged under the Wildlife Protection Act.
