
Senior Officer Killed As Pak Shelling Hit Residence In Rajouri: Omar Abdullah
Jammu And Kashmir: As India-Pakistan tensions escalate to an alarming level, with civilian casualties being reported across the border, a senior Jammu and Kashmir government officer was killed on Friday night during a Pakistani attack targeting civilian areas in Rajouri, Jammu. The victim, Additional District Development Commissioner Raj Kumar Thappa, was killed at his home, which was hit by Pakistani shelling.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has confirmed the death of the government employee, stating the state has lost a dedicated officer of the J&K Administration Services. “Just yesterday, he was accompanying the Deputy CM around the district and attended the online meeting I chaired,” the chief minister wrote on X.

Since India launched Operation Sindoor in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, targeting Pakistani terror camps, the border regions have come under heavy shelling from Pakistan. At least 13 civilians, including one soldier, have lost their lives in the border areas, particularly in Kashmir’s Poonch.
People in Jammu and several bordering districts in Kashmir have started moving to safer locations due to heavy firing from Pakistan. Several houses, places of worship and schools have been damaged.
Additionally, Pakistan has unleashed attacks against several military facilities and civilian areas in India with drones. Several cities along India’s northwestern border, including in Rajasthan, Punjab and Jammu, have been targeted. India’s air force has been active, intercepting drones.

Sirens have been sounding out intermittently in multiple cities as India’s air defence system intercepts drones and missiles. India has also launched counterattacks, which reportedly damaged key defense systems in Pakistan.
