In response to Uddhav Thackeray’s controversial statement on Ram Mandir, BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad commented that it is “a shameful and indecent remark. We condemn this.”

When reporters asked, Mr. Prasad slammed Thackeray”s “Godhra-like incident” remark and said, “. . . All I would like to say is that this entire alliance, that is against PM Modi, can go to any limit for votes… I would like to pray to Lord Ram to give them some wisdom. This is a shameful and indecent remark. We condemn this,” reports ANI.

On Sunday, Shiv Sena (UBT) Chief Uddhav Thackeray stirred a row with his “prediction” that a “Godhra-like incident” may happen following the Ram Mandir opening. While addressing a rally in Jalgoan, the former chief minister said, “…In the coming days, Ram Mandir will be inaugurated… There may be a possibility that many Hindus will be called from all over the country for the inauguration, and after the ceremony is over, they can do something like the Godhra incident while the people return…,” reports ANI.

Mr Thackeray was referring to a 27 February 2002 incident in which S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express was set of fire at the Godhra railway station killing 59 Hindu pilgrims, including 27 women and 10 children and most of them were kar sevaks returning from the inauguration of the VHP or Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s 100-day ‘Purnahuti Maha Yagna’ in Ayodhya.

As per the reports, the Ram Temple in Ayodhya will be inaugurated in January next year. The Hindu reports that a senior member of the temple trust confirmed that the ‘Pranpratistha’ (consecration ceremony) of the temple is proposed to be held on January 21–24 next year.

The official spokesperson of the temple”s trust, Champat Rai, confirmed to The Hindu that an official letter inquiring about the availability of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been sent. Besides, the trust has decided to invite over 25,000 Hindu religious leaders from 136 Sanatan traditions for the ceremony as well.
