Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee mimicking the Vice President Jagdeep Dankhar has led to explosion of political row in Parliament as well as social media. A video of an Indian comedian mimicking former speaker of the Lok Sabha, Meira Kumar is now surfacing on social media.
A journalist sharing the video of comedian taking a jibe at Lok Sabha speaker for ‘baith jaiye’ (sit down) chant, which she was often seen saying in the parliament was posted captioned, “Did Meira Kumar say she will do “aahuti” and all after this show? Soon after the mockery incident, Rajya Sabha Chairman slammed MPs action and said, “Shameful, ridiculous, unacceptable that an MP is mocking, and a second MP is videographing that incident”.
He expressed his disappointment in the MP’s act on X by describing the incident as a “personal attack” and concluded the post by saying that such “antics” will not prevent him from performing his duties. Dhankar also added, “I don”t care about how much you insult Jagdeep Dhankhar. But I can”t tolerate (insult of) Vice President of India, farmers community, my community.”
Amid the row, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Wednesday too pointed out an instance when Prime Minister Narendra Modi “mocked” former President Hamid Ansari at his farewell in 2017 by sharing the video clip of Modi’s speech.
The congress leader said that the Prime Minister had reduced Ansari’s identity to his religion and alleged that “his entire professional and political achievements were because of his religious identity”.
He further wrote, “The PM pretty much sang the same song in the evening farewell function in Parliament Library auditorium as well. Such a petty PM and his drum-beaters talking of insults being heaped at Constitutional authorities are hypocrites and opportunists of the worst kind.”
It was August 10, 2017 during the farewell to Shri. Hamid Ansari, who was retiring as Vice President and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha after a long ten year tenure.
