Two More Opposition MPs Suspended From Lok Sabha

As per the latest report, two more Opposition MPs were suspended from the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. The suspended MPs include Thomas Chazhikadan and AM Ariff. Both MPs hail from Kerala; Thomas Chazhikadan is a Kerala Congress (Mani) leader and AM Ariff is a Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader. Thus, the total number of suspended MPs constitute 143 so far.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi moved the resolution for the suspension. They were suspended for “displaying placards and entering the Well of the House”, news agency ANI reports.

Since the last week, in the “suspension spree” 97 MPs have been suspended from the Lok Sabha and 46 MPs from the Rajya Sabha.

The MPs were demanding a statement from the Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the major security breach happened in Parliament on December 13. The opposition MPs were suspended for disrupting the parliamentary proceedings which include holding protests, raising slogans, and displaying placards. And they will be suspended for the remainder of the Winter session of the Parliament which will conclude on December 22.

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chief Arvinder Singh Lovely said on Wednesday that the opposition Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc leaders will organise a protest at the New Delhi”s Jantar Mantar on Friday against the suspension of the members of the parliament from both Houses. With Wednesday”s suspension, INDIA bloc grouping has lost nearly half its strength in the Upper House and no less than one-third in the lower house.
