Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra told the Parliamentary Ethics Committee on Thursday that “sour personal relationship” resulted in the cash-for-query allegations against her, NDTV quoted sources as saying.

Ms Moitra, who reported before the Ethics panel, acknowledged that she had shared her official login with businessman Darshan Hiranandani, but claimed questions were hers. As per the allegations, the TMC MP misused her parliamentary login and id by allowing Mr Hiranandani to post questions on her behalf.

The committee is currently cross-examining Ms Moitra on the basis of reports received, along with other documents and evidences. Meanwhile, opposition MPs extended support to TMC MP, BJP expressed national security concern over the matter.

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, who is summoned before the ethics panel to submit his statements, said to reporters on Wednesday that Ms Moitra”s case is more ‘serious’ than 2005 cash-for-query scam.

It was Mr Dubey, in his complaint filed to Speaker Om Birla, stated that Ms Moitra has obtained bribes and favours for raising questions in the Parliament targeting Adani Group at the behest of Mr Hiranandani. Jharkhand MP in his letter, mentioned the documents shared by Jai Anant Dehadrato support his claim against Ms Moitra.

The ethics panel who began examining the case on October 26, asked TMC leader to appear on October 31. But, Ms Moitra expressed her inability to appear before the committee on said date due to prior commitments and said she will be available after November 5. Additionally, in the letter to Committee chairperson Vinod Kumar Sonkar, TMC MP said that she should be allowed to “cross-examine” Mr Hiranandani.  However, committee asked her to appear before it on November 2.
