“Ghuspaithiya” In India, “Brothers” In UAE: Congress MP’s Dig At PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday held bilateral meetings with the presidents of Uzbekistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during the 16th edition of the BRICS Summit in Kazan.

Sharing photos of his meeting with the President of the UAE, Prime Minister Modi wrote, “Glad to have met my brother, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of UAE, on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Kazan.”

Reacting to the same, Congress leader and Kishanganj MP Mohammad Jawed asked, “Muslims of India, specifically Kishanganj are Bangladeshi and Rohingya and Ghuspaithiya but Muslims of UAE are your brothers?”

Sharing the border with West Bengal, Kishanganj is the only Muslim-majority district in Bihar, with nearly 68 percent Muslim population and roughly 32 percent Hindus. The district is highly influenced by migration from Bengal.

Chiming in, Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and Krishnanagar MP Mahua Moitra said, “Well said my friend @DrMdJawaid1– the hypocrisy is laughable. Ek ko Zahar and doosre ko Jhappi.”

The Seemanchal (border) districts of northeastern Bihar are said to witness an influx of illegal immigrants. Kishanganj is reported to have the maximum number of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh through West Bengal and Nepal.

During unrest in neighbouring Bangladesh after widespread student protests against the former Shaikh Hasina government, India sounded an alert to man the borders for potential immigrant influx. Meanwhile, an independent MP from Bihar’s Purnia urged India to show a large heart to display its diplomatic and strategic power in south Asia, akin to what former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had shown to the world in 1971.
