A statue of Mahatma Gandhi was vandalised in Italy allegedly by the pro-Khalistani group on today, Wednesday. The statue was meant to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi . The perpetrators wrote controversial slogans related to Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar at the bottom of the statue.
The vandalism of the bust happened just a few days ahead of the G-7 Summit where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also participate. The 50th G-7 Summit is set to begin on June 14 in Italy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has received invitation from Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and he will travel to Apulia tomorrow to attend the summit.

Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra said that Indian officials had raised the matter of vandalisation before Italian authorities. “…We have seen the reports of that and we have taken it up with the Italian authorities. We understand that a suitable rectification has already taken place…”ANI quotes, as he is saying.

The local authorities stated the area was cleaned up after the incident in “record time”. Thus, the statue has been rectified.

Similar incident occurred in last year, wherein a statue of Mahatma Gandhi was vandalised by Khalistan extremists at a university campus in British Columbia, Canada.
