Reacting to the murder of Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) Tamil Nadu chief K Armstrong, Chief Minister MK Stalin today said that he has ordered an investigation into the “shocking” incident, which took place on Friday evening near Perambur in Chennai.
A gang of six reportedly stabbed the 52-year-old politician who succumbed to his death. The police have arrested eight suspects in connection with the case. Supporters of Armstrong has taken to the streets, demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the matter, which they called a ‘planned’ incident.

In a social media post, the chief minister expressed his condolences to the loved ones of the assassinated BSP chief.
“Bahujan Samaj Party State President Armstrong’s assassination is shocking and deeply saddening. The police arrested those involved in the murder overnight. I would like to convey my deepest condolences to all of Armstrong’s party, family, relatives, and friends who are bereaved, and I have ordered the police officers to conduct the case expeditiously and bring the culprits to justice as per the law,” Stalin wrote in a post on X.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, while reacting to the incident, called it a “brutal and abhorrent killing,” while expressing his condolences to the family, friends, and followers of the murdered politician.

In a post on X, the Congress leader wrote, “Deeply shocked by the brutal and abhorrent killing of Thiru Armstrong, the Tamil Nadu Chief of the Bahujan Samaj Party. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and followers. Tamil Nadu Congress leaders are in constant touch with the government of Tamil Nadu, and I am confident that the government will ensure that the culprits are brought to justice expeditiously.”

The Tamil Nadu opposition blamed the ruling DMK for the tragic incident, pointing out the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. Opposition leader Edappadi Palaniswami, while calling the law and order condition “shameful,” asked, “What do I say when the state chief of a national party is murdered?”

The BSP national chief Mayawati had on Friday reacted to the “gruesome” and “deplorable” killing, highlighting that Armstrong had a strong voice. In her social media post, Mayawati demanded the state government punish the guilty.
According to initial reports, Armstrong’s murder was revenge for the killing of gangster Arcot Suresh last year. Armstrong, a lawyer, had faced several criminal charges on different occasions earlier.
