Tamil Nadu CM Announces Expansion Of Free Bus Travel For Women, 3 Free Gas Cylinders

Chennai, Tamil Nadu: The TVK-led Tamil Nadu government has expanded women’s free bus travel, including government Express, Limited Stop, and Deluxe buses in urban areas. These include in addition to ordinary buses for inter-district travel in rural and hill regions.

The scheme, known as The Vetri Payanam, has been financed by a Rs 6,000 crore budgetary allocation. Along with this, the state government has also announced that the women heads of households will get three free LPG cylinders yearly from Pongal 2027.

Notably, the government has dropped the Parandur airport project near Chennai allegedly for alternative sites.
