A statewide crackdown on militant outfits is going on in Manipur. A joint operation between security forces and police arrested at least 13 militants belonging to banned insurgent groups last week.
Manipur has been witnessing unrest for the past few years. As of November 2024, at least 258 people have been killed and 60,000 people have been displaced in the violence that erupted between the Meitei community, the Kuki and Naga communities, and the security officials.
The unrest in Manipur is rooted in a complex mix of ethnic tensions, political demands, and various grievances, multiplied by a history of conflict between different ethnic groups, and economic disparities among them.
