“They Want To Finish Sanatana Dharma”: PM Modi's First Public Reaction On The Row

After mentioning several freedom fighters, religious leaders and historical figures including Mahatma Gandhi, Ahilyabai Holkar, Rani of Jhansi Lakshmibai, Swami Vivekanand and Lokmanya Tilak were influenced by Sanatana Dharma, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the INDIA alliance has an hidden agenda to finish the Sanatana Dharma. PM Modi, who called the Opposition INDIA alliance “ghamandiya” (arrogant) alliance, said the strategy of the bloc is to attack the culture of India.

PM Modi made these remarks during a public rally in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh. This is the first time PM Modi has addressed the Sanatana Dharma controversy, which escalated following comments made by Tamil Nadu minister and actor Udhayanidhi Stalin. Mr. Stalin”s party, DMK, is a constituent of the INDIA bloc.”

“They held a meeting in Mumbai recently,” he said, “and I think they decided on the policy and strategy for running the “ghamandiya” alliance there. They have also formulated a hidden agenda.”

He added that the strategy, according to the INDIA bloc, “is to attack the culture of India. They have resolved to challenge the faith of Indians and eliminate the thoughts, values, and traditions that have bound the country together for thousands of years. The “ghamandiya” alliance has resolved to finish the Sanatana culture and traditions that inspired Devi Ahilyabai Holkar. It was the strength of Sanatana that the Rani of Jhansi, Lakshmibai, could challenge the British and say that she would not give up her Jhansi.”

“In the days to come”, he said the INDIA alliance “will step up their attacks on us. Every Sanatani, every person who loves this country, those who love the people of this country; all of us have to stay vigilant. They want to finish Sanatana and push the country back into 1,000 years of slavery. But we have to stop such forces together. Through the strength of our organisation, we have to ensure that their strategy does not succeed”.

Udhayanidhi Stalin, whose latest hit is Mamannan that discussed the caste violence in Tamil Nadu, had stated that “Sanatana (Dharma) ought to be eradicated like malaria, dengue, and mosquitoes and not opposed” while speaking at a “Sanatana Abolition Conference” held by a writer’s forum in Chennai.
