A man from Telangana was detained in the UAE’s Sharjah International Airport as he was returning to India after completing his employment contract period in the emirate. The airport immigration police arrested the Indian worker due to alleged unpaid mobile bill dues.
The man, Sunkari Sridhar, hailing from Jagtial district in Telangana, was waiting for airport clearance for his exit from the Gulf country to Hyderabad on November 17 when he was detained by the officials.

According to the authorities, the Indian expat owed AED 12,850, approximately Rs 3 lakh, as mobile bill dues, reports Times Of India.
Sunkari Prameela, the mother of Sridhar, contacted Pravasi Prajavani (Gulf NRI Grievance) to take the matter with the authorities. Notably, his mother said that her son is innocent and that his phone was being misused by some alleged fraudsters, as he was not aware of the misuse. The mother appealed to the authorities to extend legal help to get her son released.

In a representation to Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Friday, Prameela requested to facilitate the Indian expat’s repatriation.
Emigrants Welfare Forum (EWF) President and TPCC NRI Cell Convenor Bheem Reddy Mandha has said that Sridhar’s mother mentioned that her son’s old SIM card was subjected to misuse by fraudsters. There have been several reports of SIM card swap scams and other frauds in the UAE.
