One person was killed and multiple others were injured on Sunday in a communal clash erupted during idol procession in the Uttar Pradesh‘s Bahraich. According to Police, the incident happened when procession passed through a Muslim area and two groups argued over some issues.
The incident occurred when stones were pelted and gunshots fired at the procession while it was passing through Bahraich’s Mahrajganj Bazar area as some criminals disconnected the microphone of the procession. After the incident, the Bharaich Police arrested at least 30 people.

The deceased person was identified as Ram Gopal Mishra (22) and he died of a gunshot wound. Though he rushed to the hospital, he died during treatment, one of his family members stated. Heavy police force is stationed in the area along with senior district officials.
Meanwhile, condemning the violence, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that strict action will be taken against the perpetrators.

He wrote on X: “Those who spoil the atmosphere in Mahsi of Bahraich district will not be spared. Safety is guaranteed to all, but instructions have been given to identify the rioters and those whose negligence led to the incident and take strict action against them. Immersion of idols will continue. Administration and police officials have been directed to be present on the spot and communicate with religious organizations to ensure that the immersion of idols is done on time.”
