The couple had four children—three daughters, Vandana, Archana, and Sapna, all married, and one son, Ambesh Kumar. Ambesh was working in Kolkata as an engineer.

On December 8, a heated argument took place at their home over the marriage. The son claimed his parents wanted to break the marriage and remarry him, forcing him to attach the parents with an iron pestle.
