The Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, inaugurated the Sarai Kale Khan flyover today. The flyover connects the southeast Delhi and ITO, providing a seamless three lane, signal free travel via this route.
“₹66 crore were sanctioned for this 620-metre-long flyover and we used ₹50 crore only. Due to completion of Ashram underpass, DND-Ashram extension and now this flyover, people will be able to commute on the stretch without stopping at any traffic light,” Mr. Kejriwal said.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister said, “in Delhi, we complete (the projects) before time and even save money wherever we can. One of the examples is the flyover in Mayur Vihar phase-1 that should have cost Rs 50 crore, which we were able to complete at the cost of Rs 45 crore”. He furthered his speech, mentioning the connecting flyovers that the government had built during its tenure and on how money was saved on these infrastructure buildings and added to further other similar projects.
Talking more on this, Mr. Kejriwal mentioned the Mayur Vihar Phase I, Vikas Puri-Meerabagh elevated corridor where the sanctioned amount was Rs.560 crores while the work was completed for Rs.445 crores, bringing a saving of Rs.115 crores. The Mongolpuri-Madhuban Chowk elevated corridor, he said was completed for Rs.320 crore, against the sanctioned Rs.423 crore, saving Rs.103 crore. He gave more examples by adding, Madhuban Chowk to Mukarba chowk flyover, which had a sanctioned amount of Rs.422 crore, which was completed with Rs. 300 crore and found a saving of Rs.122 crore. The newly inaugurated Sarai Kale Khan flyover had used up only Rs.50crore from the sanctioned amount.
