Anurag Bajpayee, the Indian-origin CEO and co-founder of billion-dollar water tech firm Gradiant was one among many who were arrested in connection with high-end brothels in the Boston city of Massachusetts, which is located near to the Harvard University. He was arrested early this year along with Cambridge city councillor Paul Toner, some doctors, lawyers, and even public officials.

As per the Wall Street Journal, the brothel charged as much as $600 per hour along with the clients need to submit their identification, workplace credentials, and references before being granted entry. The prosecutors allege that many of the women involved were Asian and victims of sex trafficking.

However, despite the case, Gradiant has publicly expressed their support for their CEO. “We believe in the justice system and are confident that this will resolve favourably in due course. Unrelated to this, Gradiant will continue to pursue excellence in technological innovation and to strive towards our mission to ensure clean water for all society,” the company stated.

Bajpayee is an Indian-origin engineer and entrepreneur, who possess an impressive academic and professional background. He had earned both his Master’s as well as Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Before moving to the US for higher education, he had completed his schooling at La Martiniere College in Lucknow in 2003.

Later in 2013, he co-founded Gradiant, which has since grown into one of the leading clean-tech companies in the United States. Moreover, his work was recognised by Scientific American, which named his innovation among the “Top 10 World Changing Ideas” for its contribution to global water sustainability.

Gradiant, currently operates across more than 25 countries and runs over 2,500 facilities serving major industries such as semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, mining, and food and beverages.

The case remains under active investigation as of now, with authorities continuing to examine the brothel’s client lists and the broader trafficking networks.
