‘First Civil Servant In The Family’, Wardah Khan On Securing 18th Rank In UPSC CSE 2023 (Image: X)

Wardah Khan, who originally hails from Prayagraj, secured an All India Rank 18th in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2023. The 21-year-old Wardah relocated to Noida with her family after her father’s demise in 2015 but remained focused on her goal. Being the first civil servant in the family, Wardah gives the credit for her success to her family.

Yesterday, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) released CSE 2023 results with 1016 recommendations for various posts in the central government. Wardha Khan, a Delhi University Alumni secured a rank under the top 20 after working hard for two years. This was her second attempt at the UPSC civil services examination.

While talking to the reporters, Wardah revealed that she did not expect such a good rank, however, to secure a rank in the top 20 has been a dream of every civil service aspirant. While asked about her strategy, she responded to remain focused on working hard and leave everything else to God.

Discussing her journey to become an IAS officer, Wardah described the role of her mother Afsar Jahan, an educator at Kendriya Vidyalaya, played towards achieving her dream. “I never felt any family pressure to qualify for the exam in a given period. My mother has been a constant support and I did not face any financial problems also”, added Wardah.

She also described the motivation and support received from her friends and peer groups during her studies which helped her to study well. During her preparation, she mentioned joining two study groups that helped her to discuss preparation strategy and to do evaluation.

On the difficulty level of last year”s examination, Wardah said, that in 2023 the exam pattern was different but the static knowledge and basic study sources along with a comprehensive current affairs helped her to crack the exam easily.

Looking forward to her training, she asserted to learn about handling the job challenges and is excited to learn under the diverse exposure.
