The Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) has entered into an agreement with Bharath Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) to establish a green hydrogen plant on the premises of the airport. Notably, it will be the world”s first green hydrogen plant in an airport.
CIAL announced that they have entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Indian refiner for this significant initiative. Green hydrogen, produced from water using renewable energy sources, is considered to be the future fuel. It also aligns with zero-carbon energy strategies. It is worth mentioning that Cochin International Airport is also the world’s first airport fully powered by solar energy.
The agreement exchange ceremony for the green hydrogen plant was held at Thiruvananthapuram in the presence of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. “With an MoU signed, CIAL paved the way for a greener future for Kerala!” wrote Pinarayi Vijayan on his X handle on February 16.
