Kannur, Kerala: Anjarakandy Kanpur Dental College authorities have dismissed Head of Department Dr MK Ram, who is blamed for the alleged suicide of first-year BDS student Nithin Raj.

The expulsion of Ram follows intense protest by students demanding action against the faculty member who is facing allegations of harassment in connection with the death of the 22-year-old student.

The decision was reportedly taken after discussions with student union representatives. The students had been protesting announcing a boycott of classes until action was taken against the faculty member accused of harassing the deceased student.

Since the death of Nithin, several students have come out, raising their voice against Dr Ram and certain other faculty members over alleged harassment.

Nithin allegedly died after falling from the college building on Saturday, April 11. After Nithin’s death, his family alleged that he faced constant harassment and threats from his faculty members, and some voice notes of the deceased student emerged online, corroborating the families’ claim of alleged abusive behavior from the faculty members.

The viral audio clip revealed that the accused faculty members allegedly abused the dental student, mocked his mother and issued violent threats, sparking widespread anger against the college authorities.
