
Heavy Rain: Blue Alert Declared At Idukki Dam; Water Level At Mullaperiyar Dam Surges (Photo on X@MegamalaiS)
Idukki, Kerala: Following the dangerous rise in water levels in dams amid incessant heavy rain across the state, especially in the hilly district, authorities have issued a blue alert at several dams, including Idukki dam on Sunday, MediaOne reports.
The water level at Idukki dam has reached 2372.88 feet, which stands at 66.81% of the dam’s storage capacity. However, the dam will be open only after a red alert is issued, and the red alert will be issued at Idukki dam if the water level reaches 2379.58 feet.

The dams that have been issued warnings are: Banasura Sagar (90.37%), Sholayar (98.1%), Mattupetty (93.4%), Ponmudi (93.3%), Kutyadi (98.7%), Poringin Kuth (73.7%), Kallarikkutty (95.2%), Lower Periyar (97.2%), and Muzhiyar (90.3%).
On Friday, the water level in Mullaperiyar dam reached 131.90 feet against the maximum permissible level of 142 ft, with an inflow of 4,574 cusecs and a discharge of 1,867 cusecs.

Rainfall is intensifying across the state, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing orange and yellow alerts in various districts, including Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, and Malappuram. Yellow alerts are in place for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod. The rainfall has wracked havoc in several parts of the state.
