Kozhikode Student Death: Boyfriend Arrested After Blackmail Allegations: Police Recover Voice Clips
Kozhikode: A shocking case has emerged from Kozhikode after the death of a 21-year-old physiotherapy student who was found hanging at her boyfriend’s rented house in Eranjipalam on Monday.
Police have arrested her boyfriend, identified as Basheeruddin, a gym trainer in Kozhikode, following serious allegations of blackmail, mental harassment, and physical assault raised by the victim’s relatives.
The deceased has been identified as Ayisha Rasha (21), a native of Atholi, who was studying physiotherapy in Mangaluru. She had come home to Kerala on Onam vacation three days ago, but did not go to her family residence. Instead, she stayed at her boyfriend’s rental house in Eranjipalam, where she was later discovered dead on Sunday night.

During the investigation, police recovered voice clips that Ayisha had reportedly sent to her boyfriend. These clips are now being closely examined as part of the evidence, as they may reveal her emotional state and the nature of her relationship with the accused.
Police sources also said that photos morphed by Basheeruddin were recovered from his mobile phone. These pictures were allegedly used to blackmail Ayisha. Investigators confirmed that such content was indeed found on the device.
According to police, Basheeruddin claimed that he had gone out and on returning, found Ayisha hanging. He said he rushed her to the hospital, but doctors declared her dead. While police initially recorded it as a case of suicide, relatives have now levelled strong accusations against the boyfriend.
Ayisha’s relatives alleged that Basheeruddin mentally tortured and blackmailed her. They claim he had morphed photos of Ayisha and threatened to expose them if she did not meet him. They also suspect that this was why he insisted she stay with him during her vacation, instead of going home.
“He was blackmailing her with morphed pictures. She had no choice but to obey. He used the vacation to call her to his place, knowing she could not cut classes without her family noticing. She did not have the strength to resist such pressure,” Musthafa, a close relative, told Mathrbhumi News.
Another relative, Anas, pointed out that Ayisha was active on Instagram until four hours before her death. He said she sent messages and spoke to friends without showing any signs of distress.
“Her friends told us that Ayisha would never take such a step on her own. They also revealed that Basheeruddin once hit her with a coconut grater. When friends questioned her, she gave a different reason to cover up,” he told Mathrbhumi News.
The Kozhikode police confirmed that they have taken Basheeruddin into custody. According to reports, the gym trainer allegedly showed signs of mental instability and was not cooperating fully during interrogation. Police also recovered personal items, including a slip that Ayisha had written and sent to him, which could be crucial evidence.
Authorities are now waiting for forensic and post-mortem reports to confirm the exact cause of death. Police officials said they are carefully examining all aspects, including the allegations of blackmail and physical violence.
Ayisha’s family has demanded a thorough probe and strict action against the accused. They strongly believe that their daughter was driven to death due to blackmail and constant harassment by her boyfriend.
