Malampuzha Dam, Gardens Shut Indefinitely: Kerala's Largest Reservoir Undergoes Major Renovation (Photon @ https://www.malampuzhadam.com/)
Palakkad, Kerala: The Malampuzha Dam, considered Kerala’s largest water reservoir, has been shut down to the public due to the maintenance work set to begin soon.
The public will not have access to the dam along with its surrounding park from September 11, Thursday. The dam will be reopened once the renovation is complete. The project aims to add more facilities and enhancements to the gardens and surrounding areas in the park. The maintenance and development works are being carried out under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme.

The dam and the gardens will be developed in Mysuru’s Brindavana Gardens, and it is estimated to be around Rs 75.87 crore worth project, reports local YouTube channel, voice of Palakkad. Local shopkeepers, many of them have just opened shops, lament they will be in distress for a couple of months, since the visitors are the pillar of their businesses. It is said that the Dam would take up to six months to reopen.
The dam is closed till further order. The project focuses on promoting tourism with innovative upgrades to the dam’s amenities. Gardens, children’s park and other facilities, including a ropeway and rock garden, will be renovated.
Some of the key attractions in Kerala, Malampuzha Dam draws visitors to myriads of views, such as Snake Park, Aquarium, Children’s Park, Japanese Garden and Sculpture of Yakshi, Hanging Bridge, amusement Park, Boating Facilities, Lights at Night, Malampuzha Forest, swimming Pool among others. Though the dam and the gardens will be closed, many of these facilities will be open to the public.

Situated in Palakkad with the scenic hills of the Western Ghats in the background, the dam is 125 feet high and crosses the Malampuzha River, Kerala’s second-longest river. There is a network of two canal systems that serve the dam’s reservoir of 42,090 hectares.
The reservoir has a capacity of 8000 square meters of water, and it provides drinking water to Palakkad and surrounding villages while the canal system serves to irrigate farm land.
