Thiruvananthapuram International Airport declared full emergency today following a bomb threat on an Air India flight from Mumbai, said media report. The Air India flight 657 landed landed at the airport around 8: 10 am and was moved to an isolation bay. Passengers are being evacuated.

The pilot of the Mumbai-Thiruvananthapuram flight intimated Air Traffic Control about the bomb threat. The flight which was expected to arrive in Thiruvanathapuram by 8.10 am landed early due to the threat. It departed from Mumbai airport at 5.45am on Thursday.

There were 135 passengers onboard, and were evacuated safely. The origin of the threat and other information are awaited.

In a statement released, the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport said, “AI 657 (BOM-TRV) reported a bomb threat at 0730 hours on August 22, 2024. A full emergency was declared at TRV Airport at 0736 hours. The aircraft landed safely. It is now parked at the Isolation Bay, where the evacuation process has begun. There has been no impact on life. Airport operations are currently uninterrupted”.

Air India said a specific security alert was detected on Flight AI 657 during it journey from Mumbai to Thiruvananthapuram. “The crew carried out all the laid down security drills keeping passenger safety as top priority”, read statement released by the airways.
