The Kerala Cyber Police have made significant arrests in a case where a fraudster offered a ‘Celebrity Escort Service’ in a Qatar-based Facebook messenger group of NRIs. The Kollam-based individual, identifying as ‘Shyam,’ was arrested on November 12 along with others involved with him.
Timeline was the first to report this fraudulent scheme where Shyam, using an Indian number, claimed to provide access to two Malayalam actresses who were visiting the country. Following our report, one of the actresses filed an FIR against the accused at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Ernakulam.

As it turns out, the prime accused also had another similar case filed against him where he was the second accused. Although the cyber police arrested him for the two cases, Shyam eventually got bail.
The fraudster used to work in Delhi earlier. According to the police, he suffered from undisclosed health issues, which led to him suffering from mental health issues as well. It was during this turbulent time that he found himself in a group through which he became part of defrauding people by using the name of innocent and unaware female celebrities.
As part of the scam, Shyam would detail the prices for the supposed services in a WhatsApp exchange with a member of the group, quoting 2500 QAR for one actress expected to be in Doha on 4th and 5th October 2024 and 3000 QAR for another actress arriving on 6th October, 2024.
