Viral Video Row: Vlogger Shimjitha Detained In Deepak Suicide Case
Kozhikode: Police have taken Shimjitha on Wednesday, a former panchayat member and social media vlogger, into custody in connection with the suicide of a 41-year-old man in Kozhikode district, according to local media reports.
She was detained from a relative’s house in Vatakara and later brought to the Medical College police station after a medical examination at Koyilandi Taluk Hospital.
The case is linked to the death of Deepak, a sales officer with a garment company, who was found hanging at his residence in Mankavu on Sunday morning.

His death came days after a video posted by Shimjitha went viral on social media. In the video, she alleged that Deepak had behaved inappropriately during a bus journey, triggering widespread public discussion and outrage.
Following Deepak’s death, police registered a case against Shimjitha for abetment of suicide.
She had earlier approached the Kozhikode District Magistrate Court seeking anticipatory bail, but reportedly went into hiding after the case was registered.
Police issued a lookout notice to prevent her from leaving the country before tracing her.
Tension was reported outside the Medical College police station as BJP workers staged a protest, accusing the police of trying to shield the accused.

Police officials denied the allegation and said legal procedures were being followed. Shimjitha is expected to be produced before the Kunnamangalam court.
Investigators are now focusing on recovering Shimjitha’s mobile phone, which was allegedly used to record the viral video. Police suspect the footage may have been edited using multiple clips and said all original videos must be examined to verify the allegations and intent behind sharing them.
Meanwhile, the All Kerala Men’s Association has approached the High Court seeking a CBI or Crime Branch investigation.
The association also said it has provided ₹3.17 lakh in financial assistance to Deepak’s family.
The case continues to draw wide public attention across Kerala.
