New Delhi: It is common for judges to quote poets and writers while giving their judgements in courts but there’s a new addition to the list. A Supreme Court hearing related to a bail in a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) case was underway with a bench comprising Justice Bela M. Trivedi and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma hearing the matter. What seemed like a regular hearing turned out to become an interesting one with pop culture references strewn all around.

While rejecting a bail matter, Justice Sharma showed off his pop culture knowledge. He remarked. “You must have seen Narcos? Very strong syndicate. Rarely caught. I will tell you another one, Breaking Bad. Must watch. You can’t fight with these people. They are literally killing the youth of this country.”

While referring to the NDPS case, he referenced Narcos, an American crime drama based on the story of Colombian narcoterrorist and infamous drug lord Pablo Escobar, who ran a massive cartel of producing and distributing cocaine. The show also focuses on the rise of the Cali Cartel.

Similarly, Breaking Bad follows the journey of Walter White and Jesse Pinkman in the world of drugs and crime and the efforts of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to apprehend them.

The Court was hearing an appeal against a October 4 Delhi High Court ruling that refused anticipatory bail to a married man, an alleged employee of whose was caught with 73.80 grams of heroin in April.

Netizens praised Justice Sharma for his references. An X user remarked, “Justice seems to have dope taste,” while another quipped, “Lmfao. Your honour seems to be Netflix pilled.” Another user joked, “SC recommending Breaking bad before GTA6.”
