Aravind Kejriwal Declares Jailed Chaitar Vasava As Baruch Candidate For Lok Sabha Poll

Aravind Kejriwal, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener declared jailed MLA Chaitar Vasava as his party’s candidate from Baruch seat for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. The AAP leader challenged ruling BJP to “cage a lion” like Chaitar Vasava and added that the MLA would contest the Baruch Lok Sabha election even in absentia.

Arriving at Baruch with his Punjab counter part Bhagwant Mann, Kejriwal said he wants to “announce that Chaitar Vasava will contest the Lok Sabha polls form Baruch Parliamentary constituency…by the time the polls are here, Chaitar will be out. We have hired the most expensive and topmost lawyer for Chaitar Vasava and his wife Shakuntala”.

The Delhi Chief Minister said in if the BJP does not allow Vasava to come out by using their “tactics”, it will the people’s responsibility to make him win. He said the “BJP should lose its deposit form this seat”. Kejriwal urged the tribal community to ‘avenge the insult’ that was inflicted to them by arresting Vasava and his wife Shakuntalaben. He said if the BJP had done “what was supposed to be done, the tribal communities would not be needing Chaitar”. He said BJP is against tribals and does not want the tribal community to develop.

The AAP leader went on to say that he received message that Chaitar Vasava was being forced to join BJP with an offer of Rs 100 crore and a ministerial berth, but Vasava told the BJP that he will not cheat his community, but would rather go to jail for 10-15 years. Kejriwal called Vasava a lion. He said, “he is a lion, and you cannot cage him for too long. When he comes out, he will pounce on you”.

Dediapada police station lodged FIR against Chaitar Vasava and his family accusing them of abusing five forest officials and assaulted one of them on October 30. According to the FIR, Chaitar fired a round in the air to intimidate the forest official, who later went on to file a complaint against him. On December 18, local court in Dediapada sent Chaitar to judicial custody, after the three-day police remand. The case was registered on November 2, and after evading the arrest for about a month, he surrendered on December 14. On December 18, he moved submitted a bail plea but was rejected.
