The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nominated the incumbent MP Sudhir Gupta for the Mandsaur Lok Sabha constituency, opening the door for hat trick for him as the party announced the first candidate list recently. He was born and brought up in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur and was an active member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) since his early days. After completing his studies, he worked in the Life Insurance Corporation of India and then as an office worker at the Vishva Hindu Parishad. He was one of the active participants in the Ramjanmabhumi movement.

In 2021, the BJP MP grabbed headlines with his controversial remark against the Bollywood actor Aamir Khan. Mr Gupta made the alleged divisive remark against the Bollywood perfectionist over his divorce from his wife and filmmaker Kiran Rao. It was at a television debate regarding India’s population issues that the BJP MP made the comment saying the Bollywood star has a role in the population imbalance. Aamir Khan divorced his second wife Kiran Rao after 15 years of marriage.

Speaking about Aamir Khan, Mr Gupta said, “Talking from an Indian perspective, people’s hero is Aamir Khan (Bollywood star) whose first wife Reena with kids and Kiran Rao with one kid has been left to wander around by Khan who is unbothered and has started the search for the third wife.” The Congress had condemned the Mr Gupta”s statement, calling it divisive.

However, First elected in 2014, Mr Sudhir Gupta won with a majority of more than three lakhs defeating Congress” then sitting MP. Though the seat is one of the fortresses of the BJP, the Congress had secured a victory in the 2009 general election. The saffron party’s vote share has surged significantly in the constituency during the past decade. With the MP’s third nomination for Mandsaur, Mr Gupta has started a campaign to secure a hat trick term.
