Uttar Pradesh”s Bulandshahr Lok Sabha constituency, after the 2008 delimitation, consists of five assembly segments, including Bulandshahr, Syana, Anupshahr, Debai, and Shikarpur, all under the saffron umbrella of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP).
Calling for a boycott of the polls, residents of 11 villages took to protests, demanding a bridge and link road between Khurja and Shikarpur in Bulandshahr district. The 20-kilometre stretch between Khurja and Shikarpur, with a population of nearly 2.5 lakh, is dependent on a single, rugged line. Led by gram pradhans, the protestors complained of inaction despite several election promises being made, leaving the road in poor condition for the past 20 years.
Since the 2014 general elections, Bhola Singh has been the sitting MP from the Lok Sabha constituency of Bulandshahr, winning with a huge share of votes – 6.4 lakh. In the 2019 elections, despite voices of rebellion against Singh being raised, he secured 6.8 lakh votes, defeating the Bahujan Samaj Party’s (BSP) Yogesh Verma, who only secured 3.9 lakh votes.
Reportedly, there were more than ten contenders vying for the Lok Sabha seat, including BJP state minister Amit Valmiki, Dr. Virendra Kumar, former District Judge Diwakar Singh, former MLA Munshi Lal Gautam, and Khurja MLA Meenakshi Singh, among other BJP officials.
According to Vikas Chauhan, the district head, Singh has the confidence of the party high command and hence has been nominated for the third time. “The confidence of the high command will not be allowed to diminish under any circumstances, and Bhola Singh will be made victorious by more votes than the previous elections and will be sent to the Lok Sabha,” Chauhan added, as quoted in Amar Ujala.
The director of Yaskin Infotech and Yaskin Enterprises, Bhola Singh, graduated from Chaudhary Charan Singh (CCS) University in Meerut in 1999. He has been married to Anuradha Singh since 2002.
