Hemant Patil: Shiv Sena (Shinde) Candidate Faces Trouble From NDA Alliance Partners In Hingoli

Edited by Hiba Anvar

Hemant Patil is fielded as the Shiv Sena candidate from Hingoli constituency. The Shiv Sena leader belongs to the Tiroli Patil Maratha caste. Hemant has earlier resigned from his post as a parliamentarian in support of the Maratha community’s demand for reservation on 29 October 2023.

Born in 1970, Hemant hails from Marathwada. The fielding of Hemant was not well invited by the BJP workers. The Shinde faction faced trouble in Marathwada over the candidature of sitting MP, Hemant Patil from Hingoli. The BJP workers openly opposed the candidature and raised slogans.

Just days before the Lok Sabha election, the Hingoli Lok Sabha constituency shot into the limelight when ruling Shiv Sena MP, Hemant S Patil, abruptly quit in late October 2023 in support of the Maratha reservations.

The Hingoli constituency came into existence in 1977, Hingoli remained a Congress stronghold but later became a (undivided) Shiv Sena bastion.

It first elected a Janata Party candidate in 1977; then the Congress nominees were elected five times; four times it was the Shiv Sena and once a (undivided) NCP candidate (2004).

Hingoli Lok Sabha constituency comprises six Assembly segments, of which three are currently held by the BJP, and one each is with the ruling ally Shiv Sena, the Congress and the NCP.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, Hemant Sriram of Shiv Sena won the seat by securing 5,86,312 votes. Meanwhile, in the 2014 Lok Sabha election, the Indian National Congress candidate Rajeev Satav won the seat by securing 4,67,397 votes.
