Kalanidhi Veeraswamy, ‘The Richest Candidate’ Of DMK From North Chennai

Kalanidhi Veeraswamy is fielded as the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate from the North Chennai constituency. He is an incumbent member of Parliament from Chennai North constituency.

Born in 1969, the DMK leader hails from Chennai. Kalanidhi is the son of former minister Arcot N. Veeraswamy and Kasturi Veeraswamy. Kalanidhi began his political career with DMK. In the 2019 general election, he contested and won the elections from Chennai North seat to get his first term in the Lok Sabha. As of his educational qualification, Kalanidhi has completed his M.B.B.S, M.S (General Surgery), M.Ch (Plastic surgery), and FRCSEd from the Madras Medical College, Shri Ramachandra Medical College & Research Institute, Stanley Medical College and Edin Burgh.

Kalanidhi’s election initiated his term in the 17th Lok Sabha, where he has remained committed to diligently serving his constituency.

As per the recent reports, sitting MP Kalanidhi is the richest contestant among the candidates of four major alliances and parties in three city constituencies. As per the election affidavit, the son of former veteran DMK leader has declared a total assets of Rs 40.4 crore.

Kalanidhi has promised that an air pollution board will be set up in North Chennai. He has also promised IT Employment Hub, Ennore Expressway to be set up in North Chennai.

In the 2019 election, Dr Kalanidhi got 61.85% of the vote share and defeated her nearest rival, Alagaapuram R Mohanraj of DMK, who got a vote share of 13.55% by more than 26,301 votes.

Kalanidhi’s name was connected to the ‘DMK files’ scandal. Corruption claims against Veeraswamy were made by BJP state president K Annamalai claiming he has ties to Vee Care Hospital and Chennai Public School.
