TMC candidate Abhishek Banerjee is leading ahead of the BJP candidate Abhijit Das with over 6 lakh votes as per the Election Commission results. The Final winning candidate will be declared once the counting is completed. The vote counting is under process at the counting centers and votes are constantly updated on the Election Commission’s website. Today, Amid the counting is going on the BJP candidate Abhijit Das staged a protest in front of the counting center allegedly saying that his representatives were not allowed to enter in the centre.
Abhishek Banerjee, the nephew of West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee is the sitting TMC MP representing the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency in the Parliament. The TMC supremo’s nephew, who is considered number two in the TMC, had won the Diamond Harbour constituency two times earlier, once in 2014 and the second time in 2019. Between the last two elections, the vote share for the TMC candidate Abhishek Banerjee was widened by over 15% from 40.31% (in 2014) to 56.15% (in 2019) in the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency.
In 2019, the TMC candidate Abhishek Banerjee secured 56.15% and won the Diamond Harbour seat whereas the BJP candidate Nilanjan Roy was the runner-up candidate who secured 33.39% votes. The CPI (M) candidate Fuad Halim secured 6.67% votes.
In 2014, Abhishek Banerjee’s vote share was 40.31%, and he won the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha seat. The CPI (M) candidate Abul Hasnat secured the second position after getting 34.66% votes. The BJP candidate Abhijit Das got 15.92% votes and remained third in the elections.
In 2009, the TMC candidate Somen Mitra received 53.56% votes to win the Diamond Harbour seat. The CPI (M) Samik Lahiri won 39.17% of the votes and BJP Abhijit Das secured 2.88% votes to get second and third places in the election results.
