Trinamool Congress Mitali Bag has won the Lok Sabha Election 2024 from the Arambagh Lok Sabha constituency with a total of 6,399 vote margin. Whereas, the BJP candidate Arup Kanti Digar secured second place.
The TMC candidate belongs to a humble background and has been associated with social work. Mitali has a master’s degree in history and reflects exemplary commitment to her work. Mitali Bag has inspired the girls in her surroundings and people expressed happiness over her nomination and subsequent win.
The Arabmbagh Lok Sabha constituency was a Communist Party stronghold for many decades before 2014 when Trinamool Congress candidate Aparupa Poddar secured the seat. In 2019, the TMC candidate won the election with an overall 44.14% votes whereas the BJP candidate Tapan Kumar Roy lost the election by a slight margin of 0.8% votes. The CPI (M) candidate secured only 6.83% of votes.
In 2014, the Trinamool Congress candidate Aparupa Poddar secured 54.94 percent votes and the CPI (M)candidate secured 29.51 percent votes. Whereas the BJP candidate Madhusudan Bag secured the third position.
In 2009, the CPI (M) candidate received 54.80% votes while the Congress candidate got 36.85% votes.
A remarkable shift in votes was observed from CPI (M) and Congress to TMC in 2014 elections and then from TMC and CPI (M) to BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
