Mahua Moitra Said ‘Eggs’ Source Of Her Energy, Right Wing Trolls ‘Heard’ ‘Sex’

Edited by Timeline News Desk

On the campaign trail, Trinamool Congress’ Krishnanagar candidate and ardent critic of the Modi government, Mahua Moitra, was asked about the source of her morning energy by journalist Tamal Saha. She responded, “It’s eggs.” However, four days after the interview was released on the YouTube channel of New The Truth, right-wing trolls found content to criticize the politician. They began sharing a specific portion from the video, twisting her words to ‘sex’, and used the occasion to attack Ms Moitra with innuendos.

Currently, hundreds of tweets are available on X, in which right-wing handles, including many verified users, are using the clipped portion of the interview to thrash Ms Moitra, who was suspended from Parliament after an Ethics Committee report recommending her expulsion from Lok Sabha was tabled in December. The committee had then called for an “intense, legal, institutional inquiry” by the central government in a “time-bound manner”.

The interview, which otherwise offers interesting insights into Ms. Moitra’s life, shows the outspoken and fiery Moitra traversing through the heartlands of her constituency, where she faces BJP’s ‘Rajmata of Rajbari’ Amrita Roy. Tamal Saha is seen asking about her fitness regime, social media life, childhood, religious beliefs, among other topics.

“I used to do workouts, and I used to run as well. But, after I had surgery in January, I have stopped,” she said about her fitness regime. She also remarked, “I don’t give a s**t about what’s happening on Twitter,” when asked about social media.

Regarding her religion, she stated it is personal and she does not want to showcase it publicly. When asked about the perception of Bengalis on religion, she concluded the conversation with the comment, “Bengalis are a superior race.”

After the right wing ecosystem started attacking her with the ‘sex’ jibe, journalist Tamal Saha has also took to X to response to the issue:

“Let me clarify, since this is my interview. I asked Mahua Moitr : What’s your source of energy in the morning. Mahua Moitra replied : EGGS …(anda, dim). This is ridiculous how the bhakt mandali has distorted it to make it sound like s*x. The audio is being tampered deliberately.”

Born on October 12, 1974, in Labac, Assam, Moitra comes from a Bengali Hindu Brahmin family. Her academic journey took her to Gokhale Memorial Girls’ School in Kolkata, followed by earning a degree in economics and mathematics from Mount Holyoke College, Massachusetts, in 1998. Moitra’s professional background includes her lucrative position as the vice president of JPMorgan Chase, where she worked in New York City and London before making a pivotal decision in 2009 to enter Indian politics.

Moitra’s political career began with the Indian Youth Congress, where she played a vital role in Rahul Gandhi’s initiative “Aam Admi Ka Sipahi.” Subsequently, she joined the All-India Trinamool Congress (TMC) in 2010. Moitra secured victory in the 2016 Legislative Assembly elections from the Karimpur constituency in Nadia district. Later, she secured a seat in the 17th Lok Sabha from Krishnagar.
