Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks on the manifesto presented by the Congress resembling that of the Muslim League for its “politics of appeasement,” Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge hit back by slamming the BJP’s principles brought forth by its ideological ancestors that supported the British and Muslim League against the independence struggle of India.

Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), the AICC president accused the saffron party’s ideological ancestors of opposing Mahatma Gandhi’s call for the 1942 “Quit India” movement chaired by Maulana Azad. He stated, “Even today, they are involving the Muslim League against the ‘Congress Nyay Patra’ guided and shaped according to the aspirations, needs, and demands of common Indians.”

Highlighting the shared history between the BJP and the Muslim League, Kharge pointed out that in the 1940s, Syama Prasad Mukherjee had formed a coalition government with the Muslim League in Bengal, Sindh, and the North-West Frontier Province (NWFP), now part of Pakistan. Notably, considered to be the founder of the BJP, Mr. Mukherjee founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the predecessor to the BJP, with the help of the RSS.

Kharge said, “Did Syama Prasad Mukherjee not write to the then British Governor about how the Quit India movement of 1942 can be “combated” and how the Congress should be suppressed? And for this, he said that “Indians have to trust the British”?”

Accusing the alliance of PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, and their nominated president, of “spreading falsehood” in the manifesto by Congress, Kharge rebuked the BJP leaders’ comments by saying that PM Modi’s speeches had an imprint of the right-wing and Hindu nationalist RSS. Adding that because of the BJP’s plunging electoral graph, the “RSS has started remembering its best friend – the Muslim League!”

Finally, the Congress president claimed that there was only one truth, which was that the Congress Nyay Patra reflected the “hopes and aspirations of 140 crore people of India,” adding that “their combined strength will put an end to Modi ji’s 10 years of INJUSTICE!”

During a rally in Newar in Bihar, PM Modi accused the Congress of presenting a manifesto resembling that of the Muslim League due to its “tushtikaran (appeasement).” He slammed Kharge for objecting to PM Modi mentioning the repealing of Article 370 during an election campaign in Rajasthan. Kharge had questioned the significance of bringing up the topic of Jammu and Kashmir in Rajasthan.

PM Modi accused Kharge of having the mentality of the “tukde-tukde gang” and insulting the security personnel from Rajasthan who are martyred in the valley. He also accused the Congress and leaders of the INDIA alliance of not attending the Ayodhya event, citing the opposition as being against popular sentiments, as per a report by Moneycontrol.
