Former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa expressed confidence in the Bharatiya Janta Party’s (BJP) prospects for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the state. He said that discussions were held with key party leaders, including Home Minister Amit Shah and the BJP’s national president, JP Nadda, regarding the candidates for the Lok Sabha constituencies in Karnataka. However, as of now, no final decisions have been reached.

Yediyurappa stated, “I am 100 percent confident that we are going to win 24 out of 28 Lok Sabha seats. We are putting all our efforts.”

Earlier, he had indicated that the party would finalise candidates for the elections within a day or two. Emphasising the significance of the alliance with the Janata Dal (Secular), Yediyurappa said that discussions regarding seat-sharing between the two parties are ongoing.

The BJP”s Karnataka unit, in collaboration with the Central Election Committee (CEC), is working to finalise the list of candidates for the Lok Sabha polls in the southern state. Yediyurappa, who is currently in the national capital to attend the CEC meetings scheduled for the next three days, had previously stated that the candidate selection process would be completed by Friday. However, after the recent meeting, in an ANI interview, he said, “I think they may discuss this with the PM after that they will come to some conclusion and in 2-3 days everything will be finalised.”

The BJP-JDS coalition is aiming to secure a significant portion of the 28 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka, with a target of at least 25 seats. Despite the urgency, no names from Karnataka were included in the BJP”s initial list of 195 candidates across 16 states and Union Territories announced on March 2.

Meanwhile, the Congress party in Karnataka is yet to release its list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. In the 2019 elections, the BJP emerged victorious in 25 seats, while the Congress and independent candidates clinched one seat each.
